  1. FADE IN.

  2. Act 1

  3. INT. SLEEPING ROOM - DAY

  4. PETER wakes up.

  5. PETER (V.O.): I've slept well. I feel strong.

  6. Pausing.

  7. PETER (V.O.) : While it's another new day for me, the images and interpretations of some people in politics didn't go away.

  8. Pausing.

  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I couldn't understand why some people in public office could misbehave like that.

  10. Pausing.

  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They spoke not about facts but lies, not about law but their corruption of the law, and they breached the trust the public expected of them.

  12. Pausing.

  13. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They deliberately use their masks to fool the public and misinform the international community to gain their political benefits.

  14. Pausing.

  15. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They've never been shy of indulging in their political hypocrisy or betrayal.

  16. Peter surfs the web.

  17. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, China is used to political betrayals? Why? Is there something wrong with the Chinese race? I must investigate further.

  18. Act 2

  19. INT. STUDY - DAY

  20. The TV is on. Peter has his focus on his phone screen.

  21. PETER (V.O.): Countries all over the world have national security laws. So political betrayals are foreseen. It shouldn't just be a Chinese trait.

  22. Peter scrolls down his phone screen.

  23. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Vladimir Putin says: It's better to be hanged for loyalty than be rewarded for betrayal.

  24. Pondering.

  25. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I read about his story. Loyalty is one of the reasons why he rose to power. That also explains why he hates traitors that much.

  26. Thinking.

  27. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What are the motives of traitors?

  28. Peter surfs the web.

  29. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Traitors' motives are intertwined. They may want perks in money or in kind, the thrill of betraying, or the feeling of being important. They may disrespect against their own countries because of their imagined wrongs. They may be easily led and hope for immigration.

  30. Pausing.

  31. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If there aren't sanctions against acts threatening national security, the motivating factors can be mild.

  32. Someone is being interviewed on TV. We hear: China's national security laws for Hong Kong will suppress Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement...

  33. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): China isn't withdrawing the application of the twin International Human Rights instruments to Hong Kong. The Bills of Rights Ordinances (Cap. 383) in Hong Kong isn't going to be abolished.

  34. We hear the TV anchor thanking the interviewee for his insight.

  35. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What insight has he got? Just another Hong Kong hypocrite who spoke lies in the foreign media.

  36. Pausing.

  37. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I remember the professor-interviewee was once caught for copyright infringement. But for the TV interview, I won't recall such a person in Hong Kong at all.

  38. Pausing.

  39. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The media, of course, would only interview those whose opinions coincide with their narratives, reinforcing their messages to their audience.

  40. Pausing.

  41. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As always, alternative ideas such as those I hold aren't considered.

  42. Pausing.

  43. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I watch such TV channels, not because I think they're objective, but because I want to avoid any echo-chamber effect on me.

  44. Pausing.

  45. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I like to do the dialectic myself. I've my thesis, I hear the antithesis like those from foreign media, and then I synthesize, uplifting my level of understanding of the subject matter.

  46. Act 3

  47. INT. STUDY - CONTINUOUS

  48. PETER (V.O.): To maintain Hong Kong's stability and prosperity, understanding the motivating factors of hypocrites or traitors including the foreign media is important.

  49. Pausing.

  50. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I recall yesterday when a foreign journalist in Hong Kong, was asked by her colleague to comment on China's proposed national security lawS for Hong Kong, she was shaking her head sideways multiple times.

  51. Pausing.

  52. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She remarked that she was also worried about positions of foreign journalists in Hong Kong.

  53. Pausing.

  54. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She doesn't have to worry unless what she has been engaging in Hong Kong, China, are subversive or hostile activities against China.

  55. Pausing.

  56. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If disloyal people and subversive media knew that they might be criminally responsible for their acts, they would think twice before acting.

  57. Pausing.

  58. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Thus, China's interim national security laws for Hong Kong are already late. However, for the sake of Hong Kong's stability and prosperity, it's better late than never.

  59. Pausing.

  60. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's also right that the young have to be educated in a balanced fashion, developing their independent and critical thinking ability. Their imagined wrongs can be rectified through experiential learning.

  61. Reflecting.

  62. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I now know why I've been thinking about political hypocrisy and betrayal. Most hypocrites and traitors come from within Hong Kong. How sad!

  63. Wondering.

  64. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Can they sleep well at night?

  65. INT. SLEEPING ROOM - NIGHT

  66. Peter switches off the light.

  67. PETER (V.O.): I'll sleep well.

  68. Peter goes to bed.

  69. FADE OUT.

  70. THE END
