FADE IN
Act 1
EXT. RIVERSIDE PARK - LATE AFTERNOON
Clusters of HUMANS gather on the green. A mix of sounds and smells. KAJI walks beside the PACK LEADER at a steady, purposeful pace.
KAJI (V.O.): I enjoy walking in this riverside park.
Kaji takes a few more steps. Then, her pace slows. She turns her head to the side and glances over her shoulder.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, Peter's trailing behind.
Without breaking her stride, Kaji turns her head to the side for a quick glance at PETER again.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, I want to make sure we haven't left Peter behind.
A short while later, Kaji checks once more.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The truest form of loyalty isn't just walking beside someone. It's the conscious glance back, to ensure they're still there.
Act 2
FLASHBACK
INT. LIVING ROOM - MORNING
Kaji stands by the front door, watching Peter leaving.
PETER: Be back soon.
The room is quiet.
KAJI (V.O.): Our maid has disappeared.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Peter has to prepare our breakfast.
Later, we hear key sounds at the door and Kaji whines in anticipation.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Peter is home, carrying bread.
The door opens. Peter enters, with a golden brown bread in a transparent bag in his hand. Kaji leaps onto Peter's leg and sniffs eagerly.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I can't be mistaken. I've complete confidence in Peter.
Soon, they sit across from each other at the dining table, sharing bread.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I know Peter will give me much more than what he keeps for himself.
Before long, Peter remarks.
PETER: Last one. No more. Finished.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Alright, I'm satisfied.
Kaji accepts the last treat, eats it , and then hops down from her chair.
INT. BEDROOM - LATE MORNING
Dark. The Pack Leader is a lump under the quilt. We hear phone alarms. Kaji is sitting still beside the bed.
KAJI (V.O.): I know the Pack Leader doesn't respond to alarms.
Another phone alarm starts, rings, stops. Silence. It starts again.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): When the maid isn't nome, the Pack Leader prepares my meals.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): What should I do?
Kaji hops onto the bed. She carefully picks her way across the comforter. Kaji sniffs the Pack Leader's face.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): No movement.
Kaji circles once, twice, and then settles down, lying directly across the Pack Leader's outstretched arm, her head resting on the pillow.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The Pack Leader doesn't try to move her arm at all.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): It seems that her arm is comfortable being held down by my weight.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): And she doesn't even mumur in her sleep.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): True care is about mindful action.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm very hungry right now, but I won't complain or bark since the Pack Leader doesn't like it.
RETURN TO PRESENT
Act 3
EXT. RIVERSIDE PARK - CONTINUOUS
Kaji continues to move forward.
KAJI (V.O.): The look back is the heart's compass, quietly checking it's true north.
Thinking.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Wisdom means moving ahead while remembering who helped me along the way.
Reflecting.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Looking back shows I care about more than just myself.
FADE OUT
