Act 1
INT. HOME - AFTERNOON (YESTERDAY)
The world is quiet. Still. KAJI looks out of the window.
KAJI (V.O.): It might rain later.
The PACK LEADER and PETER appear.
PACK LEADER: We should go before it starts pouring.
Peter nods.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe we're going out now.
The Pack leader helps Kaji put on her orange raincoat and clips on the leash.
PACK LEADER (Cont'd): Let's go!
Kaji is ready.
Act 2
EXT. RIVERSIDE PARK - LATER
Rain falls steadily. A persistent silver curtain. The park is empty of people, of other dogs. It's just them.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Rain doesn't cancel the world.
Kaji sniffs the air.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The scents are amplified and brand new.
Sniffing.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The wet grass smells sweet and sharp.
The gravel path is slick and the stones are shiny.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Through my pads, my paws feel the coolness. It's interesting.
The Pack Leader and Peter are just there. With Kaji.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The rain is special. They're special. The whole wet, grey, quiet world is ours alone.
INT. HOME - LATER
Kaji is in a state of blissful exhaustion, her fur still carrying the faint, clean smell of the rain. The Pack Leader is drying her paws with a towel.
PACK LEADER: You did enjoy walking in the rain.
KAJI (V.O.): The best adventure isn't the one you plan. It's the one that starts when you think nothing will happen.
INT - HOME - NIGHT
The doorbell rings. Kaji's ears shoot up.
KAJI (V.O.): I feel something is different.
The MAID opens the door.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's a familiar smell, mixed with the new, sharp smells from unknown places.
A gang MEMBER stands in the doorway, a large suitcase beside her.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): This smell isn't supposed to be here...but it's here!
MEMBER: Hi!
Kaji whines and runs to the gang member. The gang member kneels. Kaji launches herself forward, licking her hands.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): A gang member is back!
INT. HOME - LATER
The gang member is getting settled. She flops into a massage chair with a sigh.
MEMBER: I need a relief from the flight.
Kaji watches.
KAJI (V.O.): The large, bulky thing is the best spot in the world.
MEMBER (Cont'd): There's no room, baby. It's a one-dog chair.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's my chair.
MEMBER (Cont'd): You're not going to give up?
Kaji hoists herself up. Her body is folded against the gang member's side. Her head wedges under the gang member's chin. The massage rollers bump against her ribs in a weird, rhythmic pulse.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's uncomfortable. It's ridiculous.
MEMBER: Perfect for me.
The gang member wraps an arm around Kaji. She can't move.
Act 3
INT. A DIFFERENT APARTMENT - TODAY
The sky is the same grey as yesterday. Kaji relaxes on a sofa while the gang member pats her fur.
KAJI (V.O.): The same rain that keeps others indoors is the rain that brings families together.
Thinking.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The whole isn't whole because everyone's comfortable. It's whole because everyone's there.
Reflecting.
KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): The rain that brought everyone home fell on a riverside park, on a suitcase by the door, on a different apartment, reminding everyone that water, like love, finds its way to where it belongs.
