FADE IN.
Act 1
INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY
PETER and his WIFE sit side by side on a sofa.
PETER: If there's no hiccup, I shall go to Kumamoto in late March. We'll go to UK to see our younger daughter in April. Will we be going to Fukuoka to see our elder daughter in May?
WIFE: No, I've cancelled our reservations. She'll be going to Tokyo around that time. It's unlikely that I would travel in summer.
PETER: We can travel to Tokyo to meet her up...
WIFE (Enlightened): I'll ask our daughter what does she think about it.
PETER: If so, I'll fix my summer travels to Japan later.
INT. RESTAURANT - DAY
Peter and his wife are having brunch with phones by their sides.
WIFE: Our daughter says she will be having fun with her friends and doesn't know if she could squeeze the time to see us in Tokyo.
PETER: We shouldn't interrupt her Tokyo holidays...
WIFE: But we can still go to Aomori from end April to early May to see the cherry blossoms there. And then we'll see if our daughter could meet up with us in Tokyo...
PETER (Delighted): We're in Aomori just last December but we've never seen the cherry blossoms there! Let's drive there from Tokyo...
WIFE: I need to apply for a day off to make the trip. Let me get the endorsement tomorrow before we fix everything.
Peter looks excited.
Act 2
EXT. PET GARDEN - DAY
Following KAJI, their pet, Peter, and his wife enter the garden. They take photos of Kaji after she has obeyed the calls of nature.
PETER (V.O.): I thought I was only going to see our elder daughter and the cherry blossoms in Kumamoto in March alone. And now, I've got a bonus trip in April/ May with my wife. Excellent!
Kaji mingles with her friends.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In June, I'll probably be travelling to Ishigaki again...Should I pay a trip to see our son downunder later in the year?
Getting dark.
WIFE: Let's leave and go elsewhere.
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - NIGHT
Dark with background music. Peter is in bed as his WIFE bumps in.
WIFE: Japan has not just suspended its free-visa arrangement with Hong Kong but also requires a 14-day quarantine upon arrival! You can't go to Kumamoto in March!
Peter isn't responsive.
WIFE: Have you slept already?
PETER: Erh...
INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY
Peter is reading a newspaper.
PETER (V.O.): The Japanese quarantine means that I have to cancel my March trip, and my wife and I won't have our April/May trip in Japan. How disappointing!
Peter takes a deep breath.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's fortunate that I didn't book my summer trips to Japan yesterday. Otherwise, I'd have more cancellations to make.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It also means that my monthly travel practice has to be suspended because of the quarantine.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Earlier, I've worried that if I managed to visit Japan in March, I might not be able to visit UK should UK impose quarantine for visitors who have been to Japan in the last 14 days.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I just hope that UK wouldn't impose quarantine for arrivals from Hong Kong...
Peter takes a deep breath.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let me first cancel my hotel reservations in Kumamoto and tell our elder daughter the disappointing news.
Peter begins to tap his phone screen.
Act 3
INT. SITTING ROOM - NIGHT
Peter's wife comes home and sees Peter.
PETER: Hi Darling!
WIFE: I've got the endorsement to take a day off in May!
Peter looks perplexed.
PETER: What do you mean? Are you still thinking of going somewhere around that time?
WIFE (Nodding): Yes, we can go to Sydney to visit our son!
PETER (Nodding): Why not!
PETER (V.O.): Although the government advises people not to make unnecessary travels, we must carry on to live, and our travels are necessary from our perspectives!
Peter smiles.
FADE OUT.
THE END.
