PETER is reading a thick file.
PETER (V.O): I've got to prepare better for this 9.30am court hearing today.
INT. SITTING ROOM - 7.45am
In a 3-piece black suit, Peter is having breakfast with KAJI, the family pet.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This's a task that I must do every morning.
INT. OFFICE - 8.30am
Files on a desk, Peter is sorting some papers.
PETER (V.O.): I've to ensure I can easily grab the right document while I'm standing on my feet in court.
INT. COURT#1 - 9.20am
Sitting at the Bar table, Peter puts his papers in order.
PETER (V.O.): Engaging in the due process is the highlight of my day.
Act 2
INT. COURT#1 - 9.25am
COUNSEL#1 arrives, sitting to Peter's left.
PETER: Counsel, I intend to apply to Court for a Compensation Order.
An ASSISTANT has a word with Peter.
ASSISTANT: The victim is waiting outside.
INT. WAITNG AREA - 9.30am
Peter and a CONSTABLE are talking to the VICTIM.
INT. COURT#1 - 9. 45am
Court in session. After a DEFENDANT's pleading guilty to the charges, Peter narrates the story of common assault and criminal damage.
PETER: Do you admit the facts?
Having heard him saying "Yes", JUDGE#1 convicts the defendant.
INT. COURT#1 - 11.45am
Noting COUNSEL#2 has finished her exam-in-chief with a WITNESS, Peter does his cross-examination.
PETER: I put it to you that the prosecution witness did say what she said to you, do you agree?
Beat. The court is adjourned.
INT. CHA CHAAN TENG - 1.20pm
Enjoying his fried noodles, Peter watches stories from a TV set mounted nearby.
PETER (V.O.): My first break since 5.00am today.
INT. OFFICE CORRIDOR - 1.55pm
Checking his phone diary, Peter discovers something.
PETER (V.O.): Oh! Today is the due day for paying my tax. I was so busy that I didn't remember it. Can I pay it before the close of play today?
INT. COURT#2 - 2.28pm
As Peter and his assistant go inside, they see a full house. As JUDGE#2 is seated, Peter rises.
PETER: I appear on behalf of the prosecution.
PETER (V.O.): My appearance is real, unlike the fake ones in TV dramas.
INT. OFFICE - 4.05pm
Clean desk. Peter is mining some data with his phone.
PETER (V.O.): See if I can pay my tax via PPS. What is the limit of a daily transfer?
Peter is making calls.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What's my account number?
Checking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What's the merchant number of the Inland Revenue Department?
Checking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, my phone's battery is getting very low.
Act 3
INT. OFFICE - 4.25pm
Phone in one hand, Peter writes down some numbers on a sheet of paper.
PETER (V.O.): I'm glad that I've made it. What a relief!
INT. STUDY - 5.30pm
Peter is in casual wear.
PETER (V.O.): I've been particularly busy this week. I thought today could be an exception, but I was very wrong.
Smiling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To motivate myself further, I've begun writing a work manual, documenting my experience and wisdom in neglected areas of criminal practice.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Thus, the more I learn on the job, the more value I can capture and deliver.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I choose to make my life hectic - as I'm really into it.
Peter takes a look of his phone.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Tonight, I don't need to set my alarm clock. And I'll just relax to let my biological one adjust itself.
Peter looks happy.
