The Bass

  1. FADE IN

  2. Act 1

  3. INT. BEDROOM - 18:00

  4. Watching a YouTube clip and holding an electric guitar, PETER plays solo.

  5. PETER (V.O.): Ha, I've picked up something from the guitar man in the video.

  6. .

  7. Playing.

  8. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've been playing guitar in my way and haven't considered playing it differently.

  9. Picking up an electric bass guitar and turning on the rhythm of a mini bass guitar amplifier, Peter is improvising.

  10. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've written and recorded dozens of songs. As a one-man band, I haven't written any bass lines for my songs.

  11. Humming a melody, Peter begins to play the bass.

  12. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Sounds good!

  13. Finishing, PETER taps on his smart phone screen and we hear stereo music from two mobile taupe speakers.

  14. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I like my ears to hear sounds coming from different directions.

  15. Act 2

  17. INT. STUDIO - DAY (2021)

  18. Peter stares at two small silver speakers on the wall.

  19. PETER (V.O.): I haven't heard much stereo music from the old hifi system.

  20. Pausing.

  21. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When I was with the Government, I was just too busy.

  22. Pausing.

  23. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Then, the CD/DVD player became out of order. And the unit's FM reception wasn't good.

  24. Pausing.

  25. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For the sentimental reasons, I tried to fix them without success.

  26. Pausing.

  27. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The same for a repairer at Ap Liu Street.

  28. Pausing.

  29. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Then, I discovered Sony's SRS-43 Bluetooth Extra-Bass Party Speakers and bought a pair.

  30. Pausing.

  31. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As they're heavy, I put them in my NT home.

  32. Underneath the wall speakers, we see a pair of speakers. As Peter turns them on, we hear powerful sounds and see party lights flashing in syn with the beat.

  33. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They're the smaller and lighter SRS-33 Bluetooth Extra-Bass Speakers.

  35. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, I like to try new things.

  36. Pausing.

  37. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Early this year, I learned that there was a new series of SRS-13 Bluetooth Extra-Bass Speakers.

  38. Pausing.

  39. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The series has six colours - black, coral pink, lemon yellow, light blue, power blue and taupe.

  40. Recalling.

  41. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): While the black ones are available, the other colours weren't.

  42. Recalling.

  43. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And so, I began collecting them piece by piece over a couple of weeks until I got five pairs.

  44. Peter takes a photo of a pair of mobile taupe speakers.

  45. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They're small, inexpensive and no maintenance.

  46. Smiling.

  47. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Days ago when my wife saw all my 10 SRS-13 XB Speakers, she was shocked.

  48. Recalling.

  49. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In the 1960s, I longed to have a hi-fi system. It was only when I began full-time working in 1974 that I bought my first cheap set in Temple Street.

  50. Pausing.

  51. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Anyhow, I'm hoarding again.

  52. Act 3

  53. INT. BEDROOM - 23:00

  54. We hear stereo oldies from the taupe speakers.

  55. PETER (V.O.): Staying home reluctantly, I'm doing the same old things, differently.

  56. Pausing.

  57. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I don't like monotone. I like stereo - the spatial effect to the sound.

  58. Pausing.

  59. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I love the bass. They make the music full and make me feel high.

  60. THE END
