FADE IN
Act 1
INT. BEDROOM - 04:45
Dimly lit. PETER lies in bed, eyes open, staring at the ceiling.
PETER (V.O): I've slept just two cycles.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Immediately, I'm thinking about the setlist of my farewell party with HKUST colleagues next Spring.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): My songs are written with the target audience in mind - Cantonese for Hongkongers, Mandarin for those from the Mainland, and English for everyone
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Instead of a mere performance, I wish all participants to sing along with me to foster a sense of unity and belonging.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I just want to showcase creativity in us, particularly if I can do it, so can all.
Act 2
INT. STUDIO - 19:00
Reading an online piano tutorial in front of him. Peter plays the piano. We hear instructions in Spanish.
PETER (V.O): Watching the demonstrations and listening intensely, I can absorb the pop and rock rhythms, and the techniques being taught.
Focused, Peter practises different chord progressions with enthusiasm.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Learning music and piano techniques and Spanish together is fun...it's like two birds with one stone.
FLASHBACK
INT. BEDROOM - 05:30 (This morning)
Peter turns over.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I'll start off with my simple 1-minute trilingual song "Do Good for You and Me".
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And then a 3-minute trilingual song on creativity and innovation ie "Uplifting Everybody"...Only I'd write songs with such serious themes.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And I've a 1-minute song entitled "HKUST". While its simple verses are in Cantonese, everybody can sing the "Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah" chorus.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I'd like to sing "Thank You" too. I love the melody, but its lyrics are in Mandarin only...
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Should I cook up the Cantonese and English versions too?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Am I too serous? Would the audience prefer to sing just love songs?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I've very nice tunes called "I Dream of You", "Don't Make Me Blue, and...
Struggling to recall.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): What was the number that I performed on Speech Day with the music teacher and students of Shun Tak College several years ago?
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I can remember the music, but not the trilingual lyrics and titles anymore.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): It's a song I spent months working on it... If I don't turn it into a MV and publish it. it's like throwing the result of intellectual efforts away.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And I need to circulate my setlist and the songs in the MV format to participants so that they can sing along with me readily at the party.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): So far, I'm using my old songs composed with my guitars. Should I write new songs for the occasion?
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): It's high time I'd enhance the musicality of my songs. Learning piano techniques should improve my composition skills and integrate my lyrics writing.
Peter gets up, searching and watching online piano tutorials with his smartphone.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): This one is quite good. But the instructor speaks in Spanish...
RETURN TO PRESENT
Act 3
INT. BEDROOM - 21:30
Peter inserts an AI drawing entitled "The Language of Music ..." to a draft.
PETER (V.O): While lyrics are vital, music encompasses melodies, rhythms, and harmonies that convey meaning beyond words.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): The synergy between lyrics and music creates a powerful language that can express complex feelings and stories.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): The power of introspection fosters creativity and personal growth. Good ideas come when I least expect them.
