FADE IN

  1.

  2. Act 1

  3.

  4. INT. BEDROOM - 08:00

  5.

  6. Morning light seeps through the curtains. PETER rolls over.

  7.

  8. PETER (V.O): I need to summon the energy to get out of bed.

  9.

  10. Peter pulls the soft covers closer around him.

  11.

  12. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): But I've to attend the HKUST's Industry Engagement Day+...

  13.

  14. Peter rubs his eyes.

  15.

  16. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): As Chair of HKUST's Knowledge Transfer Committee, I'm obliged to show support to one of its key activities to converge science and technolgy with the industries.

  17.

  18. With a deep breath, Peter swings his legs over the side of the bed.

  19.

  20. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And the event will take place not in Clear Water Bay, but in the Millennity in Kowloon East.

  21.

  22.  Peter pushes himself up.

  23.

  24. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Actually, I'm quite excited to see the new venue meant for some MSc students.

  25. Act 2

  26.

  27. MONTAGE OF PETER'S ACTIVITIES AT THE MILLENNITY

  28.

  29. A. Peter mingles with PARTICIPANTS.

  30. B. Peter follows a guided tours to visit booths.

  31. C. Peter takes part in a photo session.

  32. D. Sitting in the front row, Peter attends the opening ceremony.

  33. END MONTAGE

  34. INT. 30/F, THE MILLENNITY - 11:00

  35. Foyer. Peter is having a cup of coffee.

  36. PETER (V.O): There're three concurrent workshops - one on a greener city, the second on a safer city and the third one on a better city...

  37.

  38. Thinking.

  39. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Logically, a better city emcompasses all...it'll be held in Classroom#5.

  40.

  41. Entering Classroom#5, Peter sees a 180-degree harbour view on his right, two large screens on his left and rows of smart chairs in the middle.

  42. PETER (V.O)(Cont'd): Should I sit at the rear row, turn my head to watch the view from time to time?

  43. Having taken a few selfies with background harbour view, Peter goes to sit in the front.

  44. PETER (V.O)(Cont'd): I join to show support. I can swim in Silverstrand Bay in the late afternoon. The view there isn't bad.

  45. Soon, a COLLEAGUE joins Peter, and PRESENTER#1 does his tech talk.

  46.

  47. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): He's talking about a web-based integrated intelligent platform to support facility management...

  48.

  49. Recalling.

  50.

  51. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): When I was Director of Intellectual Property, I was invited by a facility management association to deliver a talk on intellectual property.

  52.

  53. Recalling.

  54.

  55. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): When I talked about something invisible and intangible, many participants got lost.

  56. We hear Presenter#1 talking about broadchain-based framework...broadchain-based platform...

  57. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): What about the complexity broadchain adds? Is there a risk of over-engineering a solution?

  58. As Presenter#1's talk ends, a MC asks: Any questions from the floor?

  59. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): If no one has a burning question, I'll start the ball rolling.

  60. Following the MC to look around, Peter raises his hand and poses his question.

  61. PRESENTER#1 :...broadchain offers a secured way to manage data...it's an option.

  62. Peter nods and says: Thank you.

  63. PETER (V.O): Broadchain for facility management isn't a necessity.

  64. As PRESENTER#2 begins her tech talk, we see a slide with the caption: Vehicle tracking system - Fairview Park.

  65. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): That's interesting. I only know it has a self-driving coach for residents.

  66. Later, Presenter#2 finishes her talk. Seeing no action, Peter raises his hand and poses his question.

  67.

  68. PRESENTER#3: ...it tracks vehicle movements and sends alerts on suspicious ones...

  69. Peter nods, looking pleased.

  70. Then, PRESENTER#3's talks about: Leverage Satellites and AI for Resilience and Sustainable Development.

  71. PETER (V.O) : This is even more interesting...unfortunately, the start-up has to find Hong Kong customers to survive the death valley.

  72. Act 3

  73.

  74. INT. BEDROOM - 21:15

  75.

  76. Peter inserts an AI drawing entitled "The Smart City Dialogues..." to a draft in his laptop.

  77.

  78. PETER (V.O): The dialogues are about how to solve city problems with science and technological innovation.

  79. Thinking.

  80.

  81. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): The key is to convert relevant worldclass innovation with industries at home and beyond.

  82.

  83.  Reflecting.

  84.

  85. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Integrating knowledge and expertise from various fields is hard and that's why it's meaningful for HKUST to choose to do it.

  86.

  87. FADE OUT

  88.

  89. THE END
