Pyeongchang (meaning "peaceful" and "flourishing") in South Korea, is hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics which run through February 25. Its bidding attempts failed in 2010 and 2014. If it did not try, try again, it would not succeed.
Ecuador, Eritrea, Kosovo, Malaysia, Nigeria and Singapore made their Winter Olympics debut. Hong Kong, China sent only one athlete to compete in Alpine skiing. I believe to get or stay connected with the Games is the common goal.
Africa does not seem to have anything to do with snow and ice. But it has athletes originally from its participating 13 countries. I believe it demonstrates how one can stand out from the crowd by practising something different elsewhere.
"Clean" was the word reflecting the value of the Olympic Games' leadership and competing athletes. Good governance and compliance require discipline. Staying clean and sober is good for any business, from sports to politics.
Everyone deserves peace. To handle conflicts by peaceful means is a complex political and negotiation art. I hope the Winter Olympics 2018 does give peace a chance and look forward to skiing in Pyeongchang before long!
