Pleasant Monday

When I started my car this morning, it was rather reluctant and the symptom happened not too long ago. As I could not remember when was the last time the car's two batteries were replaced, I judged that time was ripe to have new ones. I also decided to act timely as the car might not be able to start again after it was turned off.

I went to the car battery service store that I had been frequenting. I was initially lured to go there due to positive buzz advertising and then I found I got what I paid for - quality of goods, services, accessibility and customer relationship. But the proprietor had in stock just one of the two batteries that I wanted to replace.

Having done one, the proprietor suggested I drive him to the battery wholesaler to get the other battery. During the trip, he said: "I began my business at the age of 21 and have been running it at the same location for 43 years." When I asked about his five staff, he seriously added: "I ensure they get paid while I might not get any as I've already retired."

I envy people who have the capacity to create jobs so that others can raise their families. I think we are of the same age and he has been doing good in his own way. I feel ashamed that I have not hired anyone directly, and the little support I could give was - not bargaining with him for the goods and service delivery on a pleasant Monday!
