FADE IN:
INT. STUDY - DAY
PETER in an unbuttoned white shirt, types on the computer as TV anchors break news.
PETER (V.O.)
Again, I've learnt a lot
today.
FLASHBACK
INT. OFFICE SPACE - DAY
Open standing meeting. Peter (50s) talks to his STAFF and INTERNS.
PETER
I believe in the "70/20/10"
Rule in learning development
Perplexed eyes.
PETER (Cont'd)
We learn 10% in school, 20%
from peers and 70% on the
job. That's what I've found
having formulated intellectual
property policy for decades.
Pausing.
PETER (Cont'd)
You'll feel it particularly
when you're as old as me.
EXT. CHALET IN DUBROVNIK - DAY
Sunny sky and blue sea. Peter (63) approaches his WIFE.
PETER I've just got mail that I've
succeeded in getting my
private practice certificate!
EXT. FOSHAN - DAY
Peter tours with some LADIES and GENTLEMEN.
PETER
(To Ladies#1 & 2)
I'm now in private practice.
LADY#1
I know.
PETER
But I haven't appeared in
court for 30 years.
LADY#2
You've been trained!
PETER
That's true. I'm not worried
about the law. But I've to
update myself on practice
and procedures.
LADY#2
That's easy. Just go to the
courts and observe how
others do it!
PETER
Yes, I have. But I believe
I'd learn more on the job
as I'd know how ill-structured
was the original problem.
INT. LAW LIBRARY - NIGHT
Peter studies piles of thick books.
PETER (V.O.)
So this is the Alternative
Procedure in the books.
When I heard about it
in Law School in the 1980s,
it was a new practice. Now,
even the UK has adopted
it.
INT. COURT - DAY
At a bar table, Peter sits on the right and another LAWYER (60s) on the left. The lawyer passes a sheet of paper to the clerk and another sheet to Peter before he addresses the Bench.
LAWYER
Here's the objections on
admissibility to confession
sought to be tendered by
the prosecution.
WITNESS#1 testifies and is cross-examined by the lawyer. And we hear: "There's a prima facie case."
WITNESS#2 testifies and is cross-examined by Peter. After hearing the lawyer's submission, the court adjourns.
PETER (V.O.)
Having faced the challenge during the performance of
the job, I've refreshed myself
about the specific skills.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I was so glad that the court
ruled that the confession
was accurate and voluntary.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
It's proof that I've got
the law and the practice
and procedures right.
I now have newer and
richer hands-on experience
of the Alternative
Procedure.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
I learn 10% from books,
20% from peers and 70%
from scenarios of cases.
I've developed my
competence in the field!
Looking at his image in a wall mirror, Peter smiles as if he has tasted the flavour of success.
FADE OUT. The End
