FADE IN:
INT. MOBILE REPAIR CENTRE - DAY
Coming out from a lift, PETER gets a chit from an electronic ordering machine and waits.
PETER (V.O.)
Since my retirement, I've
time to stay longer with
software problems. I try
to solve them deploying
different conceptual
analyses.
FLASHBACK
INT. RESTAURANT - DAY (2010)
Seeing Peter using a non-smart phone, a FRIEND shows his to Peter.
FRIEND
You should buy one like
this. It isn't that expensive.
INT. MOBILE SHOP - NIGHT (NEW YEAR'S EVE)
Peter and FAMILY do window shopping.
FAMILY
(To Peter)
Buy an iPhone 4S. We all
have that.
Peter nods.
PETER (V.O.)
It's a way to celebrate the
New Year!
Peter buys one and pays. Checking the functions of his new phone, Peter looks excited.
PETER
I need a good case.
MONTAGE OF PETER'S EXPERIENCE WITH HIS FIRST SMART PHONE.
A/ Peter finds a camera-shaped white phone case, buys it and inserts his phone into it.
B/ Fixing a belt to the case clip, Peter wears the phone as if it is a necklace pendant, and it's eye-catching.
END MONTAGE.
INT. LECTURE THEATRE - DAY (2011)
Speaking halfway, Peter takes out his phone to show it to the audience.
PETER
Do you know what's
this?
Focusing on the external camera appearance, the audience are perplexed with Peter's question. Peter then detaches the case to reveal the phone.
PETER (Cont'd)
Well, to make a phone
is not easy, as many
patent licences are required.
To create an industrial
design like the phone
case is what any designer
can do.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I just want to show case
that becoming part of
the creative industry can
be easy.
INT. RESTAURANT, ATLANTA - NIGHT (2011)
Peter is with two GENTLEMEN. When Peter puts his phone on the table, the gentlemen are curious.
GENTLEMEN#1
What is it?
Peter detaches the case and explains.
GENTLEMAN#2
I've never seen an industrial
design like that in the
States.
PETER (V.O.)
I'll remember that. When
you guys visit me in Hong
Kong, you'd get new ones
as my gifts.
INT. MOBILE ACCESSORY STORE - DAY (2011)
Peter buys camera-shaped phone cases of different colours and similar designs.
INT. SITTING ROOM - NIGHT (2014)
DAUGHTERS talk to Peter's WIFE.
DAUGHTERS
iPhone 6 is out!
WIFE
I know we want to
have the new model.
PETER
Go ahead. I don't
mind taking over
the used ones.
RETURN TO PRESENT
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
So, I've had more than
one iPhone 4S. I also
have cases to cover them
as the gentlemen didn't
pay me a visit. The 16GB
internal storage was fine
with me as it forced me
to manage the storage.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
But then, I began to find
Apps taking up a lot of
the internal storage and
the cases breaking up.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
So, last June, I bought my
iPhone 8+ with 256 GB
storage.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Last December, I even
bought two Nokias - one
for my Mom and one for
me. I wanted to learn how
to use it so that I might
teach my Mom.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
But early this year, I found
my iPhone had been
consuming more and more
of the internal storage -
over 230GB. I uninstalled
many Apps to no avail.
Weeks ago, I took the
bold step to reset it.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
And one of my new Nokias
went dead for unknown
reasons. I took it to the
authorized repairer and
had it fixed. Recently,
a charging problem
surfaced.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I've spent time surfing
the internet for information
that I might resolve the
problem if it was a soft
one. I suspect it is a
hardware problem. So
I've decided to take it
back to the repairer again. So here I'm.
An announcement: L6. Having checked his chit, Peter goes to a counter and presents the problem to the STAFF.
STAFF
(Checking the phone)
Oh, yes, it's a hardware
problem. Very common.
We've exhausted our
stocks. We'll call you to
come back in 2-3 weeks'
time.
INT. STUDY - DAY
Picking one of his iPhone 4S, Peter inserts a sim card into it. He also takes a photo of the old and new camera phones.
