FADE IN.
EXT. BUS CABIN - DAY
Raining. Sitting on the upper deck of a bus, PETER, dressed in white, sees dominant young passengers coming up. Some pairs clad in black and masked.
PETER (V.O.)
So these're the young
who're determined to
flout the law. In a rule-
based society, flouting
the law can't be good.
EXT. CHATHAM ROAD - DAY
Getting off the bus, Peter sees people dressed in black are masking their faces heavily by the road side.
PETER (V.O.)
They're going to have
another venture.
Following two girls in black wearing single braid tails on a road, Peter sees a foreign YOUNG MAN presenting some small Hong Kong flags to them. They refuse to accept.
PETER (V.O.)
What a mockery. They
don't identify with Hong
Kong. I doubt if they've
worked at all.
INT. MUSIC STORE - DAY
Approaching a music store, Peter looks pleased.
PETER (V.O.)
It's still open. It's non-
conspicuous location
is now an edge!
Inside is very quiet. STAFF are anxious to help.
PETER
Have you got...
STAFF
They're behind you...
Seeing something, Peter looks pleased.
PETER (V.O.)
I haven't come here for
a long time.
After paying, Peter leaves, carrying his shopping.
EXT. NATHAN ROAD - DAY
No car traffic, just people in black walking towards one direction. Peter goes and waits at a bus stop. Later, a WOMAN (40s) comes over.
WOMAN
The bus service has
suspended.
PETER
(Enlightened)
Oh, thank you!
PETER (V.O.)
The MTR station is
closed. Let me walk
to a quieter area.
As he walks, Peter sees a few not-for-hire taxis. Many desperate visitors wave at them as they drive on.
PETER
(Frustrated)
All these are due
to stupidity.
PETER (V.O.)
The worst scenario
is to walk home. I
haven't tried that
before.
EXT. HIGHWAY JUNCTIONS - DAY
Peter walks and walks by the roadside. There're others ahead of him.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
All have been
inconvenienced,
including those
dressed in black.
Then, Peter takes a pedestrian tunnel.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I've never been
here before.
Peter sees graffiti on the wall.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Political slogans
again...But this
one truly reflects
their heart.
Peter takes a photo of it. We see four Chinese characters "Never Want To Work" written on the wall.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
That's what they're
fighting for - wealth
re-distribution ie
communism.
Coming out of the tunnel from the other end, Peter looks around the environment.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I didn't have to cross
this tunnel at all. But
I gained insight.
EXT. BUS STOP - DAY
Lots of people are waiting anxiously. Buses come but they're full. Peter checks an App.
PETER (V.O.)
A bus that would take me
home should arrive in 15
minutes. Let me wait and
see.
A bus comes and Peter gets in. Other PASSENGERS in black follow him.
Seated, Peter overhears the passengers' exchanges: This's the only bus that would take us nearer to our homes.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Okay, they've given up
because of inconvenience.
Actually, they don't have
to put themselves at risks.
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
Working behind the computer and listening to the TV at the same time, Peter is thoughts.
PETER (V.O.)
Nothing ventured, nothing
gained. But mine is legal
and theirs are legally risky.
Riot and arrest scenes on TV.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd)
When they face justice,
they'd feel they're just
strangers in a criminal
crowd, carrying their
own criminal records
for life.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Having worked for over
40 years, I'm still working
creatively, contributing to
society and the world
constructively! Never
want to work?
Peter raises an eyebrow.
FADE OUT. THE END
