Living In Hong Kong

FADE IN.

INT. SLEEPING ROOM - DAY

As PETER wakes up in bed, he sees KAJI smiling at him.

PETER

(Smiling)

Yes, yes, breakfast time.

INT. DINING ROOM - DAY

Enjoying his sandwich, Peter tears and throws bread pieces in the air. Kaji doesn't miss any bit.

PETER

(Holding a bread piece)

Last one!

Peter throws it and Kaji gets it. Finishing the bit, Kaji comes close to Peter to lick his hands.

PETER (V.O.)

We love to do that. If we

win the morning, we win

the day - not a bad

routine!

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

After yesterday's court

appearance, I feel

relaxed. I'd have

another one within the

week; but I declined

as it clashed with my

volunteering work

schedule.

Pausing.

PETER(V.O.) (Cont'd)

As no preparation is

ever enough, professional

work assignments do

generate pressure.

Peter checks his phone's Quora App.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Perhaps, I'd pick a less

serious question to answer

today... Here's one.

We see the following: Q. How is it like to live in Hong Kong?

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

People are so curious

about living in Hong

Kong. Except for one

year living in London,

I've been living in Hong

Kong all my life.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Let me write my story

from beginning until

present - like a very

brief autobiography -

and let my readers draw

their conclusions if

they'd like to live in

Hong Kong.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd) I believe my background

was interesting as I had

nothing. Having met up

with life's challenges,

my mid-life was focused

on capturing public value

for Hong Kong.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

I'd insert my song "At

65", as the lyrics are

the sound bites.

Peter finds his song over the internet and taps the "Play" icon. We hear guitar music and Peter's moody singing of the lyrics:

Have I done all that I'm fit to do?

Have I done all that I want to do?

At 65, at 65, singing the beauty of life!

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

It's a good song. I wrote

it to celebrate my turning

65, before the protests

and riots.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

My largely retired life is

also beautiful as I do

what I like - travels and

voluntary work.

INT. CLUB HOUSE - DAY

As he reads a newspaper, Peter notices and checks a WeChat notification.

PETER (V.O)

An invitation to speak

in Beijing? A face-

to-face knowledge

transfer on intellectual

property.

Peter checks his diary.

PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)

I can rearrange something.

Let me accept it. It's so

nice that people from

a far would think of me.

INT. STUDY - DAY

Having chatted with someone in Mandarin over the phone, Peter taps his photo and other thumb-nail documents on his phone screen, and then taps: Send.

PETER (V.O.)

Okay, the assignment

has been fixed, and I'll

deliver value in due

course.

Then, Peter sees Quora notifications and checks them: We see one notification highlighted by a star icon, It reads as follows: Peter, you crossed 100,000 views on your answers today!

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

(Smiling)

If I manage to influence

some of the readers to

think in ways otherwise

they wouldn't think, it'd

be a win-win.

Peter looks fulfilled.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

These're some of the

things I can do now for

Hong Kong and beyond,

while living in Hong

Kong!

EXT. SWIMMING POOL - EVENING

Seeing the colourful scene, Peter takes a phone photo.

PETER (V.O.)

It's ordinarily beautiful.

I've won the morning

and the day. Living in

Hong Kong is good in

every way!

FADE OUT. THE END
