FADE IN.
INT. OFFICE - DAY
PETER is led to an office, waiting. A framed Chinese calligraphy catches his eyes.
PETER (V.O.)
Ah! "Moving forward" !
Quite good Chinese
calligraphy. Who
wrote it?
Peter examines the red seal.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh, my host!
FLASHBACK
INT. CONSULTATION ROOM - DAY
Peter chats with his DOCTOR (49).
DOCTOR
You're always on the
go. Let me recite you
a poem:
手把青秧插滿田,
低頭便見水中天;
心底清靜方為道,
退步原來是何前.
Peter nods.
PETER (V.O.)
What a wise poem!
"The paddy field is
filled with seedlings
from my hand. When
I lower my head, I
see the sky on the
water. To have inner
peace should be the
way. Stepping back
is actually moving
forward."
DOCTOR
You need to let go...
Peter nods.
END FLASHBACK
Peter 's HOST (40s) comes in.
PETER
(Pointing at the calligraphy)
I like that. The other
day, my doctor gave
me a doze of medicine...
Peter then recites: 手把青秧插滿田, 低頭便見水中天; 心底清靜方為道, 退步原來是何前.
HOST
(Delighted)
That's good! Many of
my friends have faced
setbacks recently. The
insightful poem should
be thought-provoking.
After nodding, the host chats with Peter.
EXT. ROAD - NIGHT
Walking, Peter lowers his head and surfs the web with his phone.
PETER (V.O.)
Okay, here's a link to
the poem.
Peter taps the icon: Send.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
But for the calligraphy,
I wouldn't mention the
lesson in life as
poetically narrated.
If one is engaging
and constructive,
one thing can easily
lead to another.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
After my retirement
from civil service,
there's no progress
in Hong Kong regarding
what I championed.
In the mainland, however,
my concept was picked
up, and my counterparts
endeavour to try.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Just then, I've found
a potential success
story to prove my
concept in establishing
an IP-based capital
market in the Greater
Bay Area. The conditions
are ripe now, and we
will move forward. I
feel excited!
Sensing his arrival at a traffic light crossing, Peter stops. Looking up, he sees the green man.
FADE OUT. The End
