INT. MALL - 09:15
Standing by an ATM, PETER is tapping the keys.
PETER (V.O.): Transferring money to my stock trading account has become my daily routine.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.): As I've exhausted my idle cash in other accounts, I need to enhance my buying power so as a better stock portfolio.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm not sure whether Sept-Oct 2021 is the best timing for a beginner to invest in stocks.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Investing the daily maximum amount transferable ensures my taking of a staggered approach to spread the risk.
Peter gets back his bank card.
Act 2
INT. HKUST - 11:15 - 13:30
Foyer. After chatting with STAFF#1 & 2 and the CHAIRMAN, Peter retreats to a quiet corner.
PETER (V.O.): I'm here to show support to the University's functions...I haven't decided what stocks to buy yet.
PROFESSOR#1 comes over to chat with Peter; and then the PRESIDENT. Peter then bumps into an AWARDEE-TO-BE and his WIFE. Then, photo sessions.
Entering a Theatre, Peter looks up to its far end.
STAFF# 2: Mr Cheung, your seat is right here.
Nodding, Peter takes a photo of the reserved seat.
PETER (V.O.): Actually, I don't mind sitting anywhere. My hand-clapping sounds will be heard.
The University's Honorary Fellowship awarding ceremony is in progress. The PRESENTERS and AWARDEES speak in turns.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The 1st awardee is the Chairman of the Shaw Prize Foundation. The Foundation is visionary and its practice has been politically neutral. I believe the Shaw Prizes are authentic.
Peter takes the lead to clap.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The 2nd awardee's family built Hsin Chong - a construction and property management company. I came to know Hsin Chong when I first acted as a housing assistant in the 1970s.
Audience clapping.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The 3rd awardee's family first developed Shatin's City One. I recall in 1980, the estate's property price was thought very expensive - over $1000/sq ft...Oh, she' a Roedean alumnus, my younger daughter too.
Audience clapping.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I had a chat with the 4th one in the foyer earlier. He's a social entrepreneur and has been honoured elsewhere... I'm considering if I should invest in the company he works with.
Audience clapping.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): The 5th one is an 80-year old Emeritus Professor. During the Cultural Revolution, he was a factory worker...me too in 1971. In 1984, he got his PhD (Cantab), I only got my LLB (HK).
After a round of applause, all stands.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Job done. Free lunch follows.
EXT. CAR PARK - 14:30
Inside his stationary car, Peter focuses on his mobile.
PETER (V.O.): I'm not over-educated. I can be less risk-averse.
Peter taps on his mobile.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
We hear the sounds of the wind.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But I heed the Observatory's advice not to do any water sport as a typhoon is approaching.
EXT. ROADS - 15:00
Driving. Hearing Ding-ding sounds from his mobile, Peter looks pleased.
PETER (V.O.): I'm certain that my orders would be fully fulfilled as I buy at the prevailing market price.
INT. STUDY - 16:00
Phone in hand, Peter checks his stock investment.
PETER (V.O.): Did I buy bought 100 shares of this stock? I meant to buy 1000 shares.
On Peter's phone screen, we see many red mini-charts and a few green ones.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Even if I got profit, it won't be enough to cover just the transaction fee!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I feel like to have pineapple to make me happy.
Peter exits.
Act 3
INT. MALL - 18:30
Supermarket. Holding a packet of sliced pineapple, Peter uses his other hand to answer a call.
SOMEONE (From phone): This is a security check. Have you been transferring some money routinely?
PETER (To phone): Yes.
PETER (V.O.): I like such calls. They remind me to appraise my daily routine - the secret of my future is actually hiding there.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Meanwhile, I won't miss a glimpse of my secret.
