FADE IN.
Act 1
INT. STUDY - MORNING
PETER is in thoughts.
PETER (V.O.): Today is May 5. I still got professional work to do.
Working.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've chosen to deal with the difficult one first. Seeking another person's agreement can be hard.
Calling and faxing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I want things done well. So I always have many things to do myself.
Printing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If I can deliver some papers by hand in 15 minutes, I'd do that myself rather than faxing them.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To make things happen, I believe in myself, deep down.
Act 2
EXT. ROAD - AFTERNOON
Walking together, a NEIGHBOUR chats with Peter.
NEIGHOUR: How's your elder daughter - my younger daughter's kindergarten classmate?
PETER: Thank you for asking. She's living in Japan.
The neighbour looks surprised.
PETER (Cont'd): Having worked for a year after graduation, she decided to pursue her dream to explore opportunities in Japan.
The neighbour nods.
PETER (Cont'd): Working much harder than before, she has mastered Japanese in 15 months.
NEIGHBOUR: If she believes in herself, anything is possible.
PETER (V.O.): She has my genes.
PETER: Finding a job there is much harder though.
They part.
INT. RESTAURANT - TEATIME
Peter is enjoying Wonton Noodles and Red Bean Ice.
PETER (V.O.): I haven't had them for a while. That's how I'd reward myself for hard work.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I don't seek power and glory to make me happy anymore. A little pocket money is fine though.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Deep down, me, as a reasonably healthy senior citizen, is enough.
INT. SWIMMING POOL - LATE AFTERNOON
Having done just one butterfly stroke, Peter stops.
PETER (V.O.): I feel pain in my left knee. I'd better not to injure my knee further. I should play SMART.
FLASHBACK
INT. COURT ROOM - YESTERDAY AFTERNOON
PETER is cross-examining a WITNESS.
WITNESS: It all began on 15 May, 2018...
The JUDGE takes notice that Peter is also checking if his ASSISTANT has fixed a technical problem in playing a piece of video evidence.
JUDGE: Mr Cheung, are you listening to the witness's reply?
PETER: Yes...it all began on 15 May, 2018...
PETER (V.O.): The judge didn't know that on that date, I turned 64.
RETURN TO PRESENT
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'll be turning 67 soon.
Swimming to the pool wall, Peter makes use of the water jet to massage his knees.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
Peter is watching TV, telling world stories.
PETER (V.O.): Oh, 200 years ago today, Napoleon Bonaparte died. He was thought great by some.
Peter surfs the web with his phone.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He was 51 only. What's his legacy?
Reading.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It was his law reform process, resulting in the Napoleonic Code. It became the model in parts of the non-English-speaking world such as Netherlands and Belgium.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I also did law reform in the late 1980s. The localisation and modernization of Hong Kong's intellectual property system were done on 27 June, 1997.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Deep down, I believe one can always do something relatively great - no matter what they may be.
Peter smiles.
FADE OUT.
