Walking along Des Voeux Road, Peter stops before the Square.
PETER (V.O.): If I didn't walk my friend back to his chambers before returning to mine, I won't be seeing the scene from this perspective.
Peter focuses on the Hong Kong Club Building.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): We've just had an interactive morning briefing session at the HKUST's Business School town centre in the Hong Kong Club Building.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My friend is the Council Chair. I work with him as one of the Council Members.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): While most of the Council businesses are conducted in the Clear Water Bay campus, we also make good use of the town centre.
Peter then takes a look of the City Hall.

FLASHBACK
INT. CITY HALL - DAY (1971)
Library. Peter (16) is checking the bookshelves.
PETER (V.O.): I've come all the way from NT, but I can't find any books relating to HKCEE exams.
INT. PAU KAU SCHOOL, KAM TIN (1973)
Principal's office. PRINCIPAL (29) is talking to Peter (19).
PRINCIPAL: Why don't you consider studying a London U external degree?...
PETER: To study its degree course by myself? No need to go to London at all?
Peter looks perplexed.
PETER (V.O.): The principal is a HKU graduate.
INT. EVENING SCHOOL, KOWLOON - NIGHT (1974)
Blackboard with chalk-written words "Sur le pont d'Avignon". As part of a small CLASS, Peter (20) listens to the TEACHER (30s) attentively before they sing together.
PETER (V.O.): How nice to learn French like that! What a contrast to my housing management work during the day.
Later, the teacher makes a remark.
TEACHER: Do you all know the Des Voeux Road on Hong Kong island?
The class nods.
TEACHER (Cont'd): "Des Voeux" is actually French.
The class looks enlightened.
MONTAGE OF PETER'S TERTIARY EDUCATION
A. 1976 - 1981. Home. Peter is studying BA in Philosophy as a London U external student.
B. 1977 - 1980. HKU. Peter is studying a part-time-day-release course on Housing Management course.
C. 1980 - 1982. HK Polytechnic. Peter is studying a part-time-day-release course on Land Administration.
D. 1981 - 1985. HKU. Peter is studying in the Law School.
E. 1985 - 1986. Home. Peter is studying LLM as a London U external student.
F. 1986 - 1987. UCL. Peter is studying his 2nd LLM in International Law.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Having returned from London and done civil litigation in the Attorney General's Chambers in 1987, I chose to do legal policy work.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Soon after I joined the Law Reform Commission secretariat in 1988, I met my friend. He was a Member of the Copyright Sub-Committee.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I was struck that the Sub-Committee Chair, Mr Justice Gerald Nazareth (黎守律), as he then was, reposed all the confidence in him.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believed the Judge reckoned him as a piece of human capital. I learned a lot from them on-the-job.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When I was very depressed in 1992, the Judge wrote me a kind letter, encouraging me.
Sighing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The Judge died in 2018 at the age of 86. He was a non-permanent Judge of Hong Kong's Court of Final Appeal until 2012.

Peter takes a photo, depicting the City Hall and the Hong Kong Club Building.
PETER (V.O.): Education is a form of the knowledge transfer process.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Learning is a passionate lifelong process to uplift and transform oneself. I'm always curious about the things that I don't know.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If one develops a passion for learning, whether one is talented or not, one feels the strength to excel in anything.
