Kaji: Getting Cues

FADE IN.

Act 1

INT. DINING ROOM - NIGHT

KAJI sits behind PETER as he dines with the PACK LEADER and a GANG MEMBER.

KAJI (V.O.): Oh, the pack leader puts several treats on the table.

Kaji behaves as if she can't see it.

KAJI (V.O.)(Cont'd): Until the pack leader says OK, I am allowed to take any.

The pack leader pushes a treat closer to Kaji.

PACK LEADER: OK!

KAJI (V.O.)(Cont'd): Okay, I get her verbal cue. I can take it now.

Kaji grabs the treat with her long tongue.

KAJI (V.O.)(Cont'd): Peter uses physical signals mostly. I believe I'm more responsive to visual cues.

Act 2

INT. DINING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Peter leaves the table for the room corridor.

KAJI (V.O.)(Cont'd): I'll follow him. I'll be rewarded.

INT. ROOM CORRIDOR - NIGHT

Kaji re-appears, looking satisfied.

KAJI (V.O.): I'll rejoin at the dining table. I might get more treats.

INT. DINING ROOM - SITTING ROOM - NIGHT

Sitting in a chair, Kaji turns her head. She sees Peter relaxing on the sofa staring at her.

KAJI (V.O.): What is he trying to signal? I don't get it.

Kaji then sees Peter winking his eye.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Ah, that's special. I must go and check it out.

Reaching Peter, Kaji gets a treat from him.

KAJI (V.O.)(Cont'd): My hunch isn't wrong.

INT. SITTING ROOM - DAY

Kaji is biting a toy ball on a sofa. Then she tears up a part which drops onto the floor.

PETER: Oh! You've broken it!

KAJI (V.O.): Oh, Peter responds with such a loud noise.

Staring at Peter, Kaji doesn't make any move.

KAJI (V.O.)(Cont'd): Judging from his verbal and visual cues, I've done something wrong this time.

Kaji then stares at the toy part on the floor.

KAJI (V.O.)(Cont'd): What can I restitute the position?

As Kaji is thinking, Peter takes a photo of her.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): He's taking evidence. Oh my god!

Act 3

INT. SITTING ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Seeing Kaji's nervousness, Peter looks concerned.

PETER: Well done!

KAJI (V.O.): Well done? That's the only verbal cue he uses. I can understand that.

Relaxed, Kaji scratches her ear with one hand. Peter reaches out to Kaji and uses his hand to scratch it for her.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): He gets my cue and knows which part I feel itchy. I love that.

Kaji looks content.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): That also confirms that I've done nothing wrong.

Picking up the part from the floor, Peter re-fixes it into the toy ball.

Kaji sees that.

KAJI (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, it has gone back to the former position. Well done, Peter!

FADE OUT.
