FADE IN.
Act 1
INT. STUDY - DAY
Phone in hand, PETER checks something.
PETER (V.O.): A Quoran asks me how do psychological barriers demotivate any individual from performing well in lives?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm no psychologist. But I believe I know a lot about myself.
Peter surfs the web.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, according to a new study in 2020, an average person has 6,200 thoughts in a single day.
Peter gets a calculator and hits a few keys.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's 258.3 thoughts per hour, or 4.3 thoughts per minute. What happens to our brain while we sleep?
Peter surfs the web again.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): We're not just resting. Our brain is actually very active during sleep, embarking another journey to an alternative world.
Act 2
INT. STUDY - CONTINUOUS
Relaxing on a sofa, Peter is thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): How do the researchers measure one thought?
Reading.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They pinpoint the beginning and ending of a thought by isolating specific moments when focusing on a single idea, described as a "thought worm".
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): "Thought worms"are adjacent points in a simplified representation of activity patterns in the brain.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When we move onto a new thought, we create a new thought worm.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The researchers performed functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) on participants in the study, measuring their brain activity by looking at changes with their blood flow.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Such a research on thought is scientific. It's a lot reliable than the subjective narratives of the participants.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If I was asked to describe my own thoughts, I would interpret when my thoughts begin, and how they transit into my next thought, in my own way.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Do I have over 4 thoughts per minute?
Peter stares at the larger hand of a wall clock, thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've 5-6 thoughts in a minute. Interesting thought experiment.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But the scientific study can only tell when ie timing of the thinking, but not the what ie the substance of the thinking.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Only the thinking persons can tell what they're thinking about.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): We may simply be daydreaming eg to have vacations, or we may engage in deep-thinking eg to live authentic lives.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If we could turn some of our daily 6,200 thoughts into actions, we can capture and create a lot of value.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Just then, I've jumped from one thought to another. I was thinking about fish roe.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Many fish roe couldn't survive the hostile environment. And some have even gone to humans' stomach.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To think is easy. But to do is difficult.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Nature knows humans' psychological barriers eg procrastination. They have prevented them from performing well in lives.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - CONTINUOUS
After typing "Thoughts" in the search row of the Google Photos App, Peter sees an image of guitar picks appearing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): That's how the machine thinks. When I was in my teens, my thoughts were messy too.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My philosophical pursuit has trained me how I should think and interpret.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe once we've fixed our thought problems, the problems would fix themselves.
Pondering.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And if we think better, we can do better.
Pondering.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I find it hard to stop myself thinking too.
Pondering.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It might be that as the only intelligent beings on Earth, Nature wants us to think about our stardust origin and do better in the present and beyond.
After inserting the image to a draft in his computer, Peter begins to type his answer on his phone.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Inserting the image and answering the question were my two thoughts, and I've got them done.
FADE OUT.
