FADE IN.
Act 1
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
The TV is on, playing news story.
PETER (V.O.): March on the Hill has become old news. The western mainstream media have somewhat refocused on Hong Kong stories.
On TV, an anchor is interviewing an INTERVIEWEE who speaks in a screaming voice.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The interviewee continues to badmouth Hong Kong.
On TV, we hear the anchor asking the Interviewee: Don't you fear going to gaol?
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe the interviewee has no guts.
On TV, we just see the Interviewee's wearing an embarrassing smiling face.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): No shame? I look at the interviewee with contempt.
An TV Anchor is reporting:...will be with the people of Hong Kong for democracy...
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I listen to such remarks with disgust. Why don't they stand with those US mobs marching on Capital Hill?
Act 2
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - SMALL HOURS OF MORNING
Dark. Rowing from in bed, Peter peeps at the bedside clock. It's 3:45am.
PETER (V.O): I've just slept one round. My excitement of this week's events is still with me. I recall some faces, pleading guilty or not guilty.
Peter sleeps again. He wakes up again at 6:30am.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let me off-load my vivid work memory into the work manual that I've begun recording.
INT. STUDY - MORNING
Phone in hand, Peter uses the voice input to record his work manual.
PETER (V.O.): To see my work manual taking shape is joyful. The details evidence the outcome of my experiential learning, at the expense of those instructing me.
Editing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is my Work Manual 1.0. Something new in 2021.
EXT. BAKERY - LATER
As he's suffering from the paradox of choices, Peter sees a STAFF, bringing out a tray of freshly baked "Pineapple" buns. Peter sniffs like a dog.
PETER (V.O.): They remind me of the early-morning days while I was studying in Form 1 in 1966. I went to Shung Tak English College before 7am to play table tennis.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And before the watchman opens the College's gate, I'd go to a small bakery opposite to the College to buy "Pineapple buns", if I've the little money.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): With 15 cents, I could buy two such buns. It was perfect if I'd also have a bottle of hot Vitasoy at 20 cents.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But I could only have such a breakfast occasionally. A dream I always remember is that I dreamt about having such a breakfast.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Whenever I recall the dream, I feel sad but not angry. Life was hard then. I was fortunate that I didn't drop out of College.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My children won't have to dream like mine.
Without hesitation, Peter buys "Pineapple" buns.
INT. DINING ROOM - LATER
Peter is enjoying his "Pineapple" buns, sharing some with KAJI - the family pet.
PETER (V.O.): Humans have 10 basic emotions: Anger, Contempt, Disgust, Excitement, Fear, Joy, Sadness, Shame, Surprise and Guilt.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Kaji have similar emotions, probably except Disgust, Contempt and Shame.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Perhaps, Kaji can feel the Disgust ie unpleasant and offensive stuff, and Shame too, ie uncomfortable with one's bad behaviour.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But Kaji won't feel someone is beneath consideration ie Contempt.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But I do have that strong personal emotions towards actors doing contemptuous politics.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I had some personal encounter with some actors in politics and felt how unpleasant and bad they were.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
The TV is on, showing news stories. We hear:...the so-called peaceful demonstration in Capital Hill...
PETER (V.O.): When the media reported the Hong Kong unrest, they never said "so-called" and treated their lies as truth. So disgusting.
We hear a TV anchor remarking that a radical labels himself as "an independent activist and journalist".
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In labelling himself, that radical might have learned from Hong Kong mobs.
Looking a little angry, Peter turns to something else.
PETER (V.O.): I haven't engaged the Quorans for many days already.
Peter checks new notifications.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, my Quora story - The Tenant - has reached 3M views and with 6K upvotes.
Smiling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My little nice story which is raw and real has some world appeal.
We see joy in Peter's face.
FADE OUT.
THE END
