FADE IN.
Act 1
INT. STUDY - MORNING
Working on a laptop, PETER finishes his phone conversations.
PETER (V.O.): I only check my bank accounts when I've to file my tax return. This time my security device is out of battery.
Peters turns off his laptop.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Having liaised with the bank's help desk, I've to wait for an hour for something to happen. I'd better to begin enjoying my day.
EXT. GOLDEN COAST - NOON
Cloudy. Peter is swimming along the orange buoy boom line.
PETER (V.O.): I love swimming in the sea. It's very different from swimming in a pool. The risk is worth taking.
Finishing his swimming, Peter returns to the beach.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Well, I've done 45 minutes non-stop swimming. I take that as one of my best moments today.
Act 2
INT. RESTAURANT - AFTERNOON
Peter does his order with the CAPTAIN.
PETER: Captain, I'll have Kyushu Ramen and Ice Coffee.
PETER (V.O.): Three in a row already. I miss my elder daughter in Kyushu.
Finishing his Ramen, Peter turns to his phone to check a Quoran's answer request.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What best moments am I hoping for?
Peter selects phone images.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I don't just desire. I make them happen. I make every day count.
Peter types on his phone.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Having swum is one best moment, rewarding myself with Kyushu Ramen and Ice Coffee is another.
Then, Peter checks a draft Quora answer on his phone.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): There was a good question about the difference between "wealth" as an indicator in standard of living and "worth" in quality of life. I haven't replied it yet.
Peter edits the draft.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): While the objective standard of living is tangible, the subjective quality of life is intangible.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Take wealth as an indicator of standard of living, I've been feeling strongly about it for the past couple of years.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For over 10 years now, I've been having financial freedom. As a practising barrister, I've some residual status wealth!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I work fewer days and enjoy my free time. Time is money! I'm also reasonably healthy. And health is wealth!
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As to worth as an indicator of quality of life, this differs from person to person, as lifestyles aren't the same.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Now, I want simple living. I'm not doing what I always did and so I won't get what I always got.
Finishing his editing, Peter submits his answer.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let me go to the supermarket to buy a big cup of Japanese ice cream.
INT. SUPERMARKET - LATER
A big cup of ice cream and a coupon in hand, Peter queues up at the CASHIER.
PETER (V.O.): Oh, the cashier doesn't care about speed and efficiency. Yes, the line never ends. But my hour-long free parking is about to expire.
Waiting anxiously.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Apparently, my financial wealth isn't in abundance.
When it's his turn, Peter quickly pays and leaves.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - EVENING
Peter is watching a TV documentary.
PETER (V.O.): It was about the war in Sarajevo. I visited it in 2017. Bullet holes and shelling craters mark its cityscape.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Hong Kong's 2019 unrest wasn't as bad as that.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): So, we can't take good living standard and life quality for granted.
The TV reports China's call for greater global reach to present the true and lovable China.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To enhance quality of thought isn't an easy task. It will take a lot of effort and time.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To invest in China's future, the initiative is a move in the right direction.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For me, I'll continue to be true to myself and make my wellness a priority.
FADE OUT.
THE END
