  1. FADE IN.

  2. Act 1

  3. INT. STUDY - DAY

  4. PETER is glued to his computer screen.

  5. PETER (V.O): Two years ago, there was something wrong with my computer. I had to reset it to make it functional again.

  6. Pausing.

  7. PETER (V.O.): As a result, my computer was reborn, but I had to reinstall my Apps again.

  8. Pausing.

  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But I found my factory-installed Apps were gone.

  10. Pausing.

  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): So I thought it was a time to change. I've learned to use open-sourced Apps.

  12. Pausing.

  13. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've adapted to the change pretty well.

  14. Act 2

  15. INT. STUDY - NIGHT

  16. While clearing his stuff, Peter discovers a card with a string of letters and numerals printed on it.

  17. PETER (V.O.): Is this the digital key of my factory-installed Apps?

  18. Following the instructions on the card, Peter visits a web page.

  19. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, this is my software account. It has been hiding in the virtual world.

  20. Peter checks the particulars.

  21. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, the digital key of the factory-installed Apps is also there.

  22. Peter discovers others.

  23. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, in my account, I've three sets of computer hardware?

  24. Recalling.

  25. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh yes, I bought an inexpensive pad a few years back. I seldom used it, and soon all I got was a black screen.

  26. Pausing.

  27. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I recall I thought about repairing it. But the repair cost was good enough to buy a new and better model.

  28. Pausing.

  29. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Let me re-install my licensed software in my computer first.

  30. INT. STUDY - DAY

  31. In a corner with a hifi set playing oldies, Peter stares at his computer.

  32. PETER (V.O.): I couldn't open and play a DVD-R containing CCTV footage in 3 DVD players.

  33. Pausing.

  34. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Perhaps, I don't know how to use the Apps.

  35. Having inserted a DVD-R into his computer's DVD tray, Peter uses different Apps to open and play it.

  36. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I try different ways to see if I can get a different result.

  37. Beat. We see moving images appearing on his computer screen.

  38. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): It has made my day! I need to watch the footage to prepare for a trial.

  39. Pausing.

  40. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): But I need to watch the contents from beginning to end. It's time-consuming.

  41. Finding a box, Peter takes out a computer pad.

  42. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Let me first charge it.

  43. After connecting the power supply to the computer pad, Peter sees the pad isn't responding.

  44. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Not even a light.

  45. Peter checks the connections again.

  46. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, I've connected the electricity supply to the earphone jack!

  47. Having sighed, Peter reconnects the computer pad and we see a red light.

  48. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Okay, at least it is charging.

  49. Peter then surfs the web.

  50. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If the problem of my computer-pad is software-related, there's just one trouble-shooting way I haven't tried. It's called "power/battery reset".

  51. Pausing.

  52. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I need to detach the battery inside the computer-pad. And I've never disassembled a computer before.

  53. After unscrewing all the screws on the keyboard panel, Peter stops.

  54. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Is the battery under the keyword or the screen? It seems that it's actually embedded in detachable screen.

  55. Peter checks the screen panel.

  56. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I can't see even one screw on it. How to open it then?

  57. Act 3

  58. INT. STUDY - CONTINUOUS

  59. Surfing the web and watching some video clips with his phone, Peter gets his answer.

  60. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I can open it with a guitar pick. I've dozens of them.

  61. Using a guitar pick, Peter disassembles the screen panel.

  62. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The inside of it looks like the design of a branded handbag!

  63. Pausing.

  64. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But how to disconnect the ribbon cables from the battery? They look so delicate. I don't think I've the tools.

  65. Peter is then glued to his phone screen again.

  66. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Just use my finger nail to flip out the locking flaps?

  67. Peter tries it and succeeds.

  68. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm so glad that I've tried something new again in the second day of the New Year.

  69. FADE OUT.

  70. THE END
