  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What inhibits people from thinking? Could it be mere laziness?

  13. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Or is thinking hard? Or they don't know how to do it?

  14. Pausing.

  18. EXT. ROAD - DAY (1964)

  19. Peter (10) is chatting with a group of BOYS in school uniform. Hearing and seeing a helicopter in a distance, BOY#1 begins to speak to the others with emotion.

  20. BOY#1: I've heard that the helicopter is on a surveillance mission.

  21. All boys look curious.

  22. BOYS: What?

  23. BOY#1. They want to kidnap young boys like us as sacrificial lambs for the future of Hong Kong!

  24. BOYS : Is that right?

  25. BOY#1. I've heard that some have been kidnapped already.

  26. As they look shocked, the helicopter flies near. The boys including Peter pose their bare hands as though they're guns, aiming at the helicopter. We hear their imitated machine gunshot sounds as the helicopter flies away.

  27. END FLASHBACK

  31. Pausing.

  32. PETER (V.O.)(Coint'd): Although my Dad was a newspaper photographer in the 1950s and processed black and white photos all by himself, his piece of advice to me as a teenager was strange.

  34. INT. VILLAGE STRUCTURE - DAY (1966)

  35. Peter's Dad (34) sees Peter (12) reading a book.

  36. PETER'S DAD: Don't exercise your mind that much. Thinking is hard.

  37. PETER (V.O.): Although that's your experience, I can judge that that can't be right.

  38. END FLASHBACK

  39. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My Dad made such comments on more than one occasion. That in a way has reinforced my will to think critically.

  40. Pausing.

  41. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've trained myself to question assumptions, evaluate contexts, appraise evidence before reaching my conclusions.

  42. Pausing.

  43. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My study of philosophy since 1974 has helped me a lot to understand the logical theories, how to raise the level of my explanation through the dialectical method.

  44. Pausing.

  45. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I also believe that the strength of any argument isn't on the volumes of verifiable positive instances, but in its not being falsified by a single negative instance.

  46. Pausing.

  47. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My lawyering practice, when compared to my philosophical investigation, is of a lower level though, philosophically speaking.

  54. Pausing.

  55. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I've tried to discipline my mind to think as balanced as I can, seeing the good and bad in every situation and wouldn't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

  56. Pausing.

  57. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I practise life-long learning and stimulate myself intellectually. I explore and learn something new each day.

  60. Reflecting.

  61. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'): We generate problems by our thinking. If we fix our thinking, we don't need to fix the problems as they've already fixed themselves.
