FADE IN.
Act 1
EXT. SWIMMING POOL - MORNING (May 2, 2021)
Entering, PETER sees SWMMERS#1 and #2 are hanging around the water jets at the pool wall.
PETER (V.O.): That's where I did my water massage yesterday afternoon.
Peter swims from one side of the pool to the other, focusing on the pool floor.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The water is clear and the floor is clean. Although the pool isn't small, searching something shouldn't be difficult.
Searching.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But I only know about this, having swum in this pool for 30 years.
Searching.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The very few small items I can see don't look like any ring.
As SWIMMER#1 and #2 are about to leave the water jets, Peter swims towards the pool wall.
Act 2
EXT. SWIMMING POOL - CONTINUOUS
Under water, Peter suddenly looks excited.
PETER (V.O.): It appears there's a small object lying at the bottom edge of the wall...
Swimming closer and picking it off the edge, Peter gestures a big underwater smile.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, it's my wedding diamond ring!
Rising from the pool water with the ring in his hand, Peter can't keep his mouth shut anymore. He quickly wears it in his ring finger.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Since 1993, it has been the only thing I wear all the time.
Peter continues to stare at his wedding diamond ring.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It looks so good, having returned to where it belongs after 16 hours.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is my first time losing and finding my only diamond ring. But my wife has lost and found her diamond rings on three occasions.
FLASHBACK
INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT (WELL BEFORE 2009)
As Peter's wife is about to eat something, Peter sees something shiny.
PETER: OMG, there's a piece of glass...
WIFE: No, the diamond from my ring has fallen off...
INT. BOUTIQUE/RESTARANT - NIGHT (BEFORE 2009)
Touching her fingers, Peter's wife reacts nervously.
WIFE: Where's my diamond ring?
Seeing nothing on the floor, they return to a restaurant. Checking the floor under a table, Peter picks up a diamond ring.
EXT. OPEN-AIR CAR PARK - MIDNIGHT (2009)
Rainy. Peter and his wife walk on unpaved rocky ground with torch lights.
PETER: Although we didn't see any shiny rocks during the day, it's only right that we should search again.
Between parked cars, they lower their bodies at near ground level, searching with their torch lights. Later, Peter's wife sees a shiny reflection at a spot under a car and reaches out for it.
WIFE: Ha! Ha! It's my one-carat diamond ring!
They're jubilant.
RETURN TO PRESENT
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I thought if I had lost it in the swimming pool, I should have discovered that before leaving the pool and going to the bathroom.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believed the shampoo and conditioner had loosened the ring from my finger. I also thought the my ring had gone down the sink unnoticed as I was having a shower.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Only when I mined the drain trap yesterday night and felt nothing did I realise I could be wrong.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If the ring had come loose while I was in the swimming pool, I thought it had to do with my swimming butterfly style. Although I do butterfly style in every session, I thought the water massage had made my ring finger tender.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And if my ring came loose while I was having water massage of my fingers, the strong water pressure from the jet should have driven my ring far away from the pool wall.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): How wrong I was!
Act 3
INT. BEDROOM - LATER
Peter shows his ring finger to his WIFE to see.
WIFE: Oh, you've found it?!
Peter nods triumphantly.
WIFE (Cont'd): I was thinking we should buy a better pair from Tiffany...
INT. SWIMMING POOL - TODAY
Touching his ring in his ring finger, Peter looks content.
PETER (V.O.): I'll check my lost-and-found ring from time to time. I now know how it may come loose.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe a substitute won't work for me.
FADE OUT.
