Act 1
INT. SITTING ROOM - NIGHT
Working on his laptop, PETER watches a TV variety show occasionally.
PETER (V.O.): It's already in the small hours of the morning.
We see on TV, singers' singing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Tonight's moon is the fullest, I make it an exception to sleep late.
We see on TV clips of films.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd):If people do have the time to watch the TV show, they'd find that the Greater Bay Area (GBA) is vibrant in its entertainment industry.
We hear on TV, anchors' remarks.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe GBA will first be the powerhouse of a new cultural development. It might impact on the whole of China too.
Act 2
EXT. HONG KONG CULTURAL CENTRE - DAY
Arriving in an 8-seater Previa with his WIFE, Peter parks the car at the entrance.
PETER: We haven't come here for a long time.
WIFE: Many years ago, we came here to wait for our younger son.
FLASHBACK
EXT. HONG KONG CULTURAL CENTRE - NIGHT (Around 10 years ago)
Peter is waiting inside the Previa. Later, his wife and their younger son get inside the car.
SON: At the back stage not too long ago, I was so happy to hear that Romeo has drunk the poison! I knew Juliet would kill herself with Romeo's dagger!
Peter looks bewildered.
SON (Cont'd): I can't wait the ballet performance to come to an end. I had to thank the audience on stage before I could go home!
Peter smiles.
PETER (V.O.): That's from an extra's perspective. He's tired of his nightly performances.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The ballet performance would only end some time after 10pm. And he has to go to school the next morning.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When young, I studied Shakespeare's play of Romeo and Juliet. I only associate it with romance.
END FLASHBACK
Getting off the car, Peter and his wife are attracted by the life-size sculptures outside the Centre.
PETER: I believe these public art are new.
As his wife poses along them, Peter acts as the cameraman. Other PASSERS-BY do the same.
PETER (V.O.): I can see and feel these public art bring variety, energy and life to the public space.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They make this place and us ie the artistic happening unique.
Later, Peter's SON and his GIRLFRIEND appear.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm so glad that they could squeeze the time immediately after work to join our visit to my Mum.
INT. RESTAURANT, HUNG SHUI KIU - AFTERNOON.
Section C. A party of 5 occupies one table. Peter MUM (90) is particularly talkative and happy.
MUM: I've been doing voluntary work. I counsel the elderly in elderly homes.
Group chatting over dim-sums.
PETER (V.O.): She'd still talk about that her mother died young. She was the only daughter of her widower father. And she had a handsome husband.
In her phone, Peter's wife finds a black-and-white photo and shows it to all.
PETER: Sitting between my mum (18) was his father in a suit and his husband-to-be.
We hear remarks directing at Peter's Mum: You're beautiful; and your husband was handsome.
MUM: Now, I've shortened by five inches.
PETER (V.O.): Yes. My Dad died 10 years ago.
Peter helps all share the dim-sums.
Act 3
EXT. SITTING ROOM - NIGHT
Peter and his wife are chatting.
PETER: To visit my Mum during the day today rather than late at night yesterday was a great choice. I feel so happy.
Peter wife nods.
PETER (V.O.): It's good that those close to us would know something about our family's history.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): A people without the knowledge of their history and cultural practice is like a tree without roots.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Culture enables our initiatives sustains our practice.
Peter watches the late TV news.
FADE OUT.
